How can the craft of textile design be explored through typography?
International Society of Typographic Designers submission — Merit award
This award-winning publication explores the work of textile designer Leila Vibert-Stokes. Scanned and manipulated photos of embroidery contrast with bitmap type and digital ‘threads.’
Zuzana Licko’s typeface Lo-Res 9 Narrow has been interpreted through a number of digital and analogue type treatments, relating to the pixellated letterforms.
The spreads used linen-textured and translucent papers to play with the idea of the tactility of fabric and the glass of a computer screen. The publication was handbound using traditional hardcase binding techniques and features a debossed cover.
The Reflective journal and Strategy and specification publications explain the working process behind the ISTD project, and are singer sewn bound. The showthrough on the 120 gsm paper is used as a design feature to highlight grid alignments over different spreads.
